DANCING WITH PROPS
Dancing with props is a style of movement in which a dancer incorporates a physical object into the dance as an active part of the expression, rather than as a simple accessory. The prop becomes an extension of the dancer’s body, influencing rhythm, flow, and spatial patterns while enhancing visual impact and storytelling. Common props include items like veils, fans, ribbons, staffs, hoops, or poi, each adding its own texture and dynamic to the movement.
This approach to dance is often used to deepen audience engagement, emphasize musical phrasing, and convey emotion or narrative through the interaction between the dancer, the object, and the music.
